‘Project Hiu’, Hiu being the Indonesian word for Shark, is an initiative which aims to provide alternative income to fishermen in one of the largest shark fisheries in Indonesia, and the world.
You will get to meet all the crew and see where and how our fishermen live by immersing yourself in the true local culture on Lombok. We will take a tour of the ways Project Hiu has shaped the island and meet the locals that made it possible.
Join us for an unforgettable journey where we’ll explore both the breathtaking underwater world and the natural beauty of Lombok’s landscapes. Dive or snorkel through stunning tropical reefs teeming with life, and then head inland to discover lush hills, cascading waterfalls, and serene rice paddies.

Lombok learning expedition- Travel with purpose
It’s hard to put into words what makes this expedition so incredible—it’s a full, immersive stay in Lombok collaborating with Project Hiu to save 60 sharks’ lives! This is travel with a massive, positive impact, not just on you, but on the community we’re working with.
$3200 per person without Freedive certification
$3700 per person with wave 1 or 2 Molchanovs Freedive certification
Includes
• 9 nights accommodation twin share 5 star hotel with pool
• Welcome dinner!
• Breakfast daily from the hotel
• Daily dive trips exploring the local tropical reefs (swim with baby reef sharks & explore the stunning pink beach).
• Meet the Project Hiu crew and see where and how the fishermen live by immersing yourself in the true local culture on “fisherman island”. We will take a tour of the ways Project Hiu has shaped the island and meet the locals who made it possible.
• Daily Mucho Relaxo breathwork & movement sessions with Chelsea. These sessions are designed to enhance your physical and mental resilience and also invoke deep calm and relaxation.
• We travel to witness sharks being brought into one of the largest shark markets in Indonesia to be processed and sold for their fins. We will get the chance to observe and document catch being brought in from all areas of surrounding oceans & witness the fin drying process.
• Local guided tour to Benang Stokel waterfall, Benang Kelambu Waterfall, Sukarara Traditional Village & Sade Traditional Village.
• Surf lesson at Selong blanc
• Lunches when out on the boat (served vegan)
• Added extra! Molchanovs accredited Wave 1 or 2 Freedive course. (Online theory to be completed before the holiday). Courses will be stretched out over 5 days leaving you ample time to meet course requirements.
• Line training and depth sessions up to 30m
• Transport during the stay- we will be travelling up to an hour to the boats, markets, beaches & waterfalls

This expedition is open to all experience levels. This is the perfect opportunity to improve on your snorkelling and free diving skills with professional instruction while saving sharks lives and making a positive impact on the commmunity of Lombok.
Booking and Refund Policy
Due to limited space, a non-refundable* deposit of $500 is payable to secure your spot.
The full price of $3200/$3700 must be paid by the 1st of April 2025, which is NON REFUNDABLE* after that date if you happen to cancel for your own reasons. However, you can sell your spot to another person. If we are unable to travel due to COVID border closures we will reschedule the expedition to the same dates in 2026 or will offer you a full refund minus the deposit amount of $500.
It is important for you to think ahead, purchase travel insurance in a timely manner (in case of border closures or cancellation), know the vaccine situation for crossing borders and be comfortable with your personal stance.
*The full amount will be refunded, minus the $500 deposit if the trip is cancelled due to COVID.
